An Unfortunate Cancellation

Despite a devastating cancellation, we are still fighting to bring back the show that we all know and love, The Wilds. The series received a renewal notice for season 2 merely a week after the first season premiered, verifying the return of Mia Healey as Shelbygoodkind, Erana James as Toni Shaifoe, Reign Edwards as Rachel Reid, Sophia Taylor Ali as Fatin Jadmani, Sarah Pigeon as Leah Rilke, Shannon Grace Berry as Dot Campbell, and Jenna Clause as Martha Blackburn, with Helena Howards as Nora Reid unconfirmed at the time. It was absolutely groundbreaking and still continues to remain as one of Prime's most successful originals.

According to https://tv.parrotanalytics.com/US/the-wilds-amazon, "The Wilds ranks at the 97.4th percentile in the Drama genre. This means The Wilds has higher demand than 97.4% of all Drama titles in the United States. This series has brought so much to us, not just as a fandom, but to everyone in many different ways". As indicated by the same website, "Parrot Analytics has found that the audience demand for The Wilds is 8.7 times the demand of the average TV series in the United States in the last 30 days. 2.7% of all shows in this market have this level of demand". It gave us a safe haven, a comfort space to communicate and connect with other people who may feel like they're alone.

The Wilds had such a beautiful message, and it showed its audience that they were, in fact, not alone but rather seen and heard. The series discusses several profound issues that most medias today, unfortunately, fail to recognize: sexual abuse, homophobia, eating disorders, pedophilia, suicide, etc. The Prime Original had amazing representation in the YA collection, especially for women and for the LGBTQ + community, that may not have been catered to by other previous medias. It was shocking, to say the least, when Prime announced a cancellation.

Working Towards A Renewal

Although season 2 may be argued as objectively weaker than the first season due to a lack of screentime for the original 8 cast members, fans are absolutely distraught with news of the cancellation. The fandom is working deliberately for a renewal using hashtags such as #savethewilds or #renewthewilds, rewatching season 2, which undoubtedly led to its downfall, and signing the petition https://www.change.org/p/save-the-wilds, amassing an impressive 8.7 k signatures in under 48 hours. Furthermore, fans of the show have reached out to other streaming platforms like HBO Max, Hulu, NBC, and Disney + in hopes that they will pick up the series, as well as the writers, Amy Harris and Sarah Streicher, executive representatives of Prime Video, a podcasting network, and other large creators for help in restoring the astounding original, The Wilds. The movement has caught the attention of several articles such as Hello! magazine, Daily Express, and others. Below, are just a few of the many fans who are trying to revive the beloved drama series.
